Predator 2 is a 1990 American science-fiction horror film and the sequel to the original Predator. Set ten years after the first movie, it takes place in Los Angeles in 1997 during a brutal heat wave and a violent drug war between Colombian and Jamaican cartels. The police and a mysterious alien hunter collide in a city where the Predator hunts targets for sport.

The story follows LAPD detective Lt. Mike Harrigan (Danny Glover) as he and his team investigate a series of brutal killings that connect to the Predator. The alien uses advanced tech, including infrared vision and active camouflage, which makes it a deadly opponent. As the Predator wipes out gang members and even some police, Harrigan pieces together the truth: a highly skilled extraterrestrial hunter is stalking the city.

Keyes, a government agent, helps set a trap to capture the creature, but the Predator outsmarts the plan, killing several of Keyes’s men and leaving Harrigan to face it alone. In a final showdown on a rooftop, the Predator is severely damaged, but it destroys itself with a self-destruct device. Harrigan defeats the creature by severing its self-destruct mechanism and using a throwing disc to finish the fight. He later discovers the Predator’s body is taken by a group of cloaked Predators who arrive to collect trophies. Their leader gives Harrigan an ancient engraved pistol as a reward for killing the Predator, a symbol that the hunt will continue.

Cameos include Anna Gonsalves from the first film. Predator 2 was directed by Stephen Hopkins, written by Jim and John Thomas, with a score by Alan Silvestri. The film had a budget around $20–30 million and grossed about $57 million. It received mixed reviews at release but gained a cult following over time. It spawned later crossovers and sequels in the Predator franchise, including Predators (2010) and The Predator (2018), and a prequel, Prey (2022). It has been released on various home video formats and streaming services.
