Ahmed Abdullahi Gulleid
Ahmed Abdullahi Gulleid (Somali: Axmed Cabdullaahi Guuleed, Arabic: احمد عبد الله جوليد), born in 1953 in Garbahaarreey, southern Somalia, is a Somali writer and researcher known as Aag. He studied locally before moving to Mogadishu for further study. In 1988, while still in college, he publicly questioned the legality of Somalia’s October 21 revolution, for which he was imprisoned and expelled. He later studied in Canada, the United Kingdom, and Yemen. Gulleid is a syndicated columnist who writes on Somalia’s current issues, including opposition to armed Islamist groups. One of his online articles attracted about 200,000 readers and more than 3,400 comments. He lives and works in the United Arab Emirates. His book Somalia: A Reciprocal Curse? was published in January 2009.
