Capo di Monte, Hampstead
Capo di Monte is a historic house at 3 Judges's Walk on Windmill Hill in Hampstead, London. It is a Grade II listed building and sits at the corner of Upper Terrace and Judge's Walk. The house dates from the late 18th century and was already there by 1762. It is two storeys high with a basement, finished in stucco with weatherboard extensions at the rear. The actress Sarah Siddons stayed there from 1804 to 1805, and an S above the door marks her residence. Some describe the house as three cottages joined into one, and it became known as Siddons Cottage. After Siddons, Mr. Macgrath, secretary of the Athenaeum Club, lived there. In 1941 the art historian Kenneth Clark and his family moved in, having previously rented Upton House. During the war, Stephen Spender and his wife Natasha often dined there. The Clarks left in 1946 for Upper Terrace House. The house later became the residence of Marghanita Laski. It was put up for sale in 2020 for £6.9 million. A drawing of Capo di Monte by Frederick Charles Richards is in Newport Museum in Newport, Wales. Coordinates: 51.56029°N, 0.18168°W.
