Men's International Professional Tennis Council
The Men’s International Professional Tennis Council (MIPTC), also known as the Men’s Tennis Council (MTC), ran the men’s Grand Prix tennis circuit. It started in 1974 and included representatives from the International Tennis Federation (ITF), the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP), and, from 1976, tournament directors from around the world. Its main jobs were to approve and schedule Grand Prix events and to create and enforce a players’ code of conduct with fines and suspensions. On August 30, 1988, during the first day of the US Open, the ATP announced it was leaving the MIPTC, unhappy with its influence, and began its own tour for 1990 onward. The MIPTC was dissolved in 1989.
