Khmilnyk Raion is one of six districts in Vinnytsia Oblast, southwestern Ukraine. Its administrative center is the city of Khmilnyk. As of 2022, about 180,700 people live in the raion. In July 2020, Ukraine reformed local government, reducing the number of districts in Vinnytsia Oblast to six and expanding Khmilnyk Raion. Before the merge, the raion’s population (January 2020) was about 34,600.

Geography
The raion is in the northern part of Vinnytsia Oblast and borders Zhytomyr and Khmelnytskyi regions. It covers about 3,702 square kilometers. It sits on the Podilska and Dnieper uplands, with the highest point at 384 meters. The terrain is a rolling plain with river valleys. The climate is moderately continental: July average around 20°C and January around -5°C. Annual rainfall is 520–590 mm, higher in the west. The area lies in the Southern Bug and Dnieper river basins, with a watershed crossing the district. The Snyvod area has the largest artificial lake and many oxbow lakes.

Nature and economy
Forests are mainly oak and hornbeam. Local wildlife includes elk, roe deer, wild boar, beaver, hare, and wolves. Soils are mostly alfisols and fertile chernozem. About 60% of the land is used for farming. The district has mineral resources such as garnet, kaolinite, brown coal, and radon-bearing mineral waters.

Administrative structure
Khmilnyk Raion has 9 hromadas (territorial communities) and 229 settlements, including 3 cities. The communities are Kalynivka, Kozyatyn, Khmilnyk urban, Hlukhivtsi, Zhdaniv, Ivaniv, Makhnivka, Samhorodok, and Ulaniv.

Transport
The raion is crossed by railway lines and roads connecting Vinnytsia and Zhytomyr. European route E583 passes through Khmilnyk.
