Megalomyrmex mondaboroides

Megalomyrmex mondaboroides is a Neotropical ant in the subfamily Myrmicinae. Its name reflects its similarity to Megalomyrmex mondabora.

Where it lives
- Found in lowland wet forests of Panama and Costa Rica.

Colony and habitat
- Colonies have been found inside the nests of small fungus-farming ants (Attini), especially Cyphomyrmex costatus and Apterostigma goniodes.
- In Costa Rica, a worker was collected from sifted leaf litter.

Relation to similar species
- It looks very similar to M. mondabora. They were once treated as a single variable species, but there is evidence they are sympatric in Costa Rica, and genetic data suggest they are likely sister species.
