Meg Muñoz
Meg Muñoz is an ally and advocate for sex workers and the founder of Abeni, a nonprofit in Orange County that supports people in the sex industry and survivors of trafficking. She grew up in Orange County and faced a difficult childhood, including substance use and eating disorders. She began escorting at 18 to fund college, found the work initially exciting, but soon struggled with meth addiction, dropped out, and faced years of turmoil, including abusive relationships and trafficking.
After leaving the sex industry, Muñoz pursued recovery and, with the help of faith, began to heal. She started Abeni in 2009 to provide a safe, confidential space where sex workers—both those who enjoy their work and those who want to leave—can get support without stigma. Abeni emphasizes that sex workers should be represented by people in the industry and advocates for the decriminalization of sex work to improve safety and access to care. It also supports trafficking survivors and partners with other organizations, such as the Orange County Needle Exchange Program.
Muñoz remains an active voice, often sharing her experiences on Twitter. She notes that her faith helped her healing, but she does not push religion on others. Abeni operates independently, offering resources, education, and a nonjudgmental community to sex workers in Orange County and beyond.
