Ambohitsorohitra Palace
Ambohitsorohitra Palace is in Antananarivo, the capital of Madagascar. It is a presidential palace, but it only has a symbolic role and is not the president’s home. The palace was built from 1890 to 1892 by French architect Jully to house the office and residence of the colonial governor of French Madagascar. It is designed in the French neo-Renaissance style using bricks and stone and was officially opened on July 14, 1892. In 2009, during the power struggle between Marc Ravalomanana and Andry Rajoelina, the military took over the palace, and they threatened to seize it again during a failed coup in November 2010.
