MediEvil is a series of action-adventure games developed by SCE Studio Cambridge and published by Sony. It follows Sir Daniel Fortesque, an undead knight who must restore peace to the Kingdom of Gallowmere and redeem himself. The first game came out on PlayStation in 1998, with a sequel, MediEvil 2, released in 2000. The series has seen two remakes: MediEvil: Resurrection for the PlayStation Portable in 2005 (reissued on PSP and later on PlayStation Network) and a full PlayStation 4 remake in 2019 simply titled MediEvil.

The first three games were developed by SCE Studio Cambridge (formerly Millennium Interactive). The creators were Chris Sorrell, who conceived the original idea, and Jason Wilson, the lead artist. The music for the games was composed by Andrew Barnabas and Paul Arnold, known as Bob & Barn.

In MediEvil (1998), the story begins in 1286 when the evil Zarok raises an army of the undead. Dan Fortesque, believed dead after a failed hero’s display, is accidentally revived a century later, and he fights Zarok to save Gallowmere. MediEvil 2 moves the action 500 years forward to Victorian London, where Dan, aided by Winston and Kira, battles new threats including Lord Palethorn and Jack the Ripper.

MediEvil: Resurrection reimagines the first game with updated graphics, extra content, and new voice work, including narration by Tom Baker. The 2019 PS4 remake modernizes the visuals while keeping the core story and humor.

The series is praised for its atmosphere, visuals, and music, though critics have pointed to camera issues and uneven innovations. MediEvil 2 won the BAFTA Interactive Entertainment Award for Best Console Game in 2000. A graphic novel, MediEvil: Fate’s Arrow, was released in 2019 to accompany the PS4 remake. The games are also referenced in other Sony projects, and there were reports in 2025 of a MediEvil film in development, rumored to feature songs by Tenacious D.
