Mecias de Jesus, full name Antonio Mecias Pereira de Jesus, was born on February 8, 1962 in Graça Aranha, Maranhão, Brazil. He is a Brazilian politician serving as the federal senator for Roraima since February 1, 2019. He previously served as a state deputy for Roraima from 1995 to 2019. He is a member of the PRB party and has been its state president in Roraima. Before politics, he worked as a financial adviser and, in his youth, as a shoeshine, farmer, waiter, and gardener. His son Johnathan de Jesus was elected to the federal Chamber of Deputies in 2010. He and his family belong to the Nova Vida Baptist church. In 2017 he proposed a bill to exempt churches in Roraima from water, electricity, and telephone taxes, a controversial measure that did not pass. In the 2018 general election, he won a seat in the Federal Senate with 85,366 votes, one of six new Evangelical lawmakers elected that year.
