Max Stalling, born December 27, 1966, is a Texas country singer-songwriter from Crystal City, Texas. He grew up there and attended school in Carrizo Springs. He earned a bachelor’s and a master’s degree in Food Science from Texas A&M University, where he led a cadet unit in his senior year. He started playing guitar and writing songs while in graduate school. After college, he moved to Dallas, worked for Campbell-Taggart Baking and later for Frito-Lay, but soon quit his job to pursue music full-time. In Dallas he built a band and developed his own Texas-influenced sound, inspired by Townes Van Zandt, Robert Earl Keen, and Guy Clark.

Stalling releases music on Blind Nello Records, a label he runs with Kevin Deal and Mark Manders, with distribution through Sony. His 2010 album Home to You was produced by Lloyd Maines and received nominations at the LoneStarMusic Awards; its single I Ain’t Drinking Alone was a regional radio favorite. Other albums include Comfort In the Curves (1999), Wide Afternoon (2000), One of the Ways (2002), Topaz City (2008), Banquet (2015), and Live at the Mucky Duck: Portmanteau (2019). He has also issued live albums and earlier projects like Songs of Forbidden Love (1998) and Genuine (2003).

Stalling performs about 150 shows a year and has a Budweiser sponsorship. He married Heather Stalling in 2007; she plays fiddle and sings in his band and also in her own group, Blacktop Gypsy. Heather collaborates with him on recordings as well. Stalling has served on the Texas Chapter of The Recording Academy’s Board of Governors and has a star on the South Texas Music Walk of Fame in Corpus Christi.
