His Majesty's Marshal of the Realm (Swedish: Hans Majestät Konungens riksmarskalk) is the top official of the Swedish Royal Court. The Marshal leads the Office of the Marshal of the Realm and is responsible for organizing the court and keeping in touch with the Riksdag and the Government. Official royal press releases usually go through the Marshal. The office was created in 1607 under Charles IX. For most of its history it was held by a noble, until 1936 when Axel Vennersten became the first non-noble to hold the post. The Marshal is titled Excellency. Until 1975 Marshals were Knights of the Royal Order of the Seraphim, but since then non-royal Swedes are not eligible. By tradition, former Marshals become Chancellor of the Royal Orders until the next Marshal takes office. Jan Björklund has been the incumbent since January 1, 2026.
