Defence Infrastructure Organisation (DIO) is part of the UK’s Ministry of Defence. It looks after the MoD’s built and rural estate, which means the land, buildings and property used by Defence.

DIO was formed on 1 April 2011 to bring together estate management, cut running costs, and create commercial opportunities. The chief executive is Mike Green. The head office is at St George’s House in Whittington, Lichfield, Staffordshire.

DIO manages about 1.8% of the United Kingdom’s land. This includes around 115,000 non-residential buildings and 50,000 houses. The organisation is divided into six operating divisions under the Corporate HQ. The Ministry of Defence Guard Service is also part of DIO.

In 2016, the National Audit Office criticised DIO for the way it managed its outsourcing partner Capita, saying the performance regime was not fit for purpose and did not effectively promote sustainable spending reductions.
