Marlon Mullen
Marlon Mullen (born 1963) is an American painter based in Contra Costa County, California. He maintains a studio at NIAD Art Center in Richmond, CA, a program that stands for Nurturing Independence through Artistic Development. Mullen is autistic and largely nonverbal. Since 1993 he has produced text-inspired paintings that reference the graphic style of art magazines like Artforum. His work gained national attention at the 2019 Whitney Biennial. In 2024, Mullen became the first developmentally disabled artist to have a solo exhibition at the Museum of Modern Art in New York. He has exhibited throughout the United States.
