Mark Ideson
Mark Ideson is a Canadian wheelchair curler from Parry Sound, Ontario. Born on April 10, 1976, he won a gold medal for Canada at the 2014 Winter Paralympics in Sochi and later earned bronze medals at the 2018 PyeongChang and 2022 Beijing Paralympics.
Ideson studied environmental science at the University of Western Ontario, where he met his wife, Lara. He was also a Western Mustangs Cheerleader. After graduating, he became a helicopter pilot and was introduced to wheelchair curling in 2010, at age 33. He now lives in London, Ontario with Lara and their two children, Brooklyn and Myles.
In 2007, a helicopter accident near Cambridge, Ontario left Ideson with quadriplegia after he broke 29 bones. An eight-year-old boy, Daniel Hermann, saw the crash and called 911, helping save his life.
Ideson has had notable success on the world stage as well. He won gold at the 2013 World Wheelchair Curling Championship in Sochi and has earned silver medals at the World Championships in 2020 (Wetzikon), 2023 (Richmond), and 2024 (Gangneung).
