Pragmulji III
Pragmal Singh Jadeja (3 May 1936 – 28 May 2021) was the head of the Kutch branch of the Jadeja dynasty and the ceremonial ruler of Kutch. Born in Bhuj, he was the eldest son of Meghrajji II and Maharani Rajendra Kunwarba Sahib. He became the heir to the throne after his grandfather Vijayarajji died in 1948. He studied at Mayo College in Ajmer, Doon School in Dehradun, and Hindu College in Delhi.
In 1957 he married Princess Priti Devi of Tripura. After his father’s death in 1991, Pragmulji was installed at Prag Mahal Palace in Bhuj as Maharajadhiraj Mirza Maharao Shri Pragmulji III Sawai Bahadur, Maharao of Kutch.
The Jadeja-Kutch royal family owns several palaces, including Ranjit Vilas Palace, Prag Mahal, Vijay Vilas Palace and Chavda Rakhal. Ownership disputes were settled by the court in his favor, upholding his inheritance of the properties, some of which have become luxury hotels.
Pragmulji lived mainly in Mumbai and had a home in London, but he often returned to Bhuj to care for his heritage. He helped repair Prag Mahal and Aina Mahal after the 2001 Gujarat earthquake and supported the installation of a bust of Khengarji III in New Kandla, the founder of the port.
He died on 28 May 2021 in Bhuj from COVID-19 complications. He had no children, so his younger brother Hanuwantsinh became the Head of the Jadeja-Kutch.
