Mardol (street)
Mardol is a historic street in Shrewsbury, Shropshire. It features a mix of architectural styles, from Tudor timber-framed buildings to newer structures. The street runs from the site of the old Severn crossing near St George's Bridge (now the Welsh Bridge at Mardol Quay) up to the town centre at Mardol Head.
The origin of the name is unclear. It may come from "mard wall," meaning a boundary wall, or from "Devil's End."
Shuts and passages off Mardol include King's Head Passage, Phoenix Place, Mardol Gardens, Carnarvon Lane, Hill's Lane and Roushill Bank.
At the top of Mardol stands the public artwork Darwin Gate (2004), and at the bottom is The Quantum Leap (2009), a large outdoor sculpture.
