Malcolm Ernest Scott (8 May 1936 – 11 September 2020) was an English sportsman who played cricket and football in the 1950s and 1960s. He was born in Westoe, South Shields.

Cricket
Scott played first-class cricket for Northamptonshire from 1959 to 1969 as a right-handed batsman and a slow left-arm orthodox bowler. In 185 matches, he scored 2,445 runs and took 461 wickets. His best season came in 1964, when he claimed 113 wickets, including 6/62 and 7/32 against Sussex. In 1969, in his first John Player League match, he opened the bowling and took 3/6.

Football
He also played football as a centre half in the English Football League for Newcastle United, Darlington and York City between 1956 and 1964.

Personality and later life
Scott was a quiet, reserved man who hardly appealed for dismissals. His career was hampered by a shoulder injury and doubts about his bowling action, and he retired from cricket after the 1969 season. After playing, he coached in South Africa and later worked as a social worker with young offenders in England. He published his autobiography in 2009, A Geordie All-Rounder: An Autobiography of a South Shields Sportsman.

Death
Scott died in Stourport-on-Severn, Worcestershire, in September 2020, aged 84. His wife Mary died in 2017; they had no children.
