Mai's is a Vietnamese restaurant in Houston, Texas, located in Midtown at 3403 Milam Street. It opened in 1978, started by Phin and Phac Nguyen, and was Houston’s first restaurant to feature Vietnamese cuisine. The restaurant is named after the couple’s daughter, Mai, whose name means “golden flower,” and she took over the business in 1990. Mai's is known for its beef stew, a signature dish. A fire on February 15, 2010 caused much of the roof to collapse, but there were no injuries. The fire was determined to be started by a wok. Mai's reopened on April 16, 2011. The business has since been passed down to Mai's daughter Anna Pham, who is the current owner. Phin Nguyen died in 2017. In 2015, Anthony Bourdain visited Mai's and said it gave him the first great meal and the most memorable great meal he had in Houston.
