The 1990 California State Assembly elections were held on November 6, 1990. All 80 seats in the Assembly were up for election. Each seat has a two-year term, and members are limited to three terms (six years) in the Assembly.

The Democratic Party, led by Willie Brown (13th District, San Francisco), won 48 seats. The Republican Party, led by Ross Johnson (64th District, Fullerton), won 32 seats. Democrats gained 2 seats, while Republicans lost 2. The final vote totals were Democrats 3,560,787 (50.32%) and Republicans 3,187,240 (45.04%).

Willie Brown was the Speaker before the election and remained Speaker afterward, keeping the Democrats in control of the Assembly.
