Ailing is a female Chinese given name. It originates from East Asia and is used in Chinese communities across East and Southeast Asia. It can be written as 爱玲 (simplified) or 愛玲 (traditional), roughly meaning “lovely.” Other character combinations exist, such as 爱凌 or 蔼龄/藹齡, with related meanings. In Mandarin it’s pronounced Ailing (Ai-ling), and it is often Anglicized as Eileen or Irene. Variants include Ai-ling, Ai Ling, Oi-ling, and Ling-ling as a nickname.
