Democratic Renewal Party (Partido Renovador Democrático, PRD) is a political party in Angola. It was formed on December 16, 1990, after its founders left the ruling MPLA; they had been MPLA leaders who had been exiled following a failed coup in 1977 and the purges that followed. The party’s chairman is Luis da Silva dos Passos. The PRD faced early splits: in April 1992, its chairman Joaquim Pinto de Andrade left, and in August 1992, General Secretary Vicente Júnior also broke away.
