Mahanpur is a small town and a newly created tehsil in Kathua district, Jammu and Kashmir, India. It used to be part of Basohli tehsil. The town is about 50 km north of Kathua and 32 km south of Basohli, at coordinates 32°32′N 75°38′E. It sits in the lower Sivalik Hills at an elevation of around 400–900 meters above sea level. The population of Mahanpur town was 1,554 in 2011. The tehsil covers about 363 square kilometers. Mahanpur borders Bani and Duggan Tehsils to the north, Billawar to the west, and Dharkalan to the south. Official languages are Dogri and Hindi. Postal code 184202; vehicle registration JK-08.
