Magnus Norman
Magnus Norman (born 30 May 1976) is a Swedish former professional tennis player and current coach. He reached a career-high singles ranking of world No. 2 in June 2000 and won 12 ATP singles titles, including the 2000 Rome Masters. His best Grand Slam result was the French Open final in 2000, and he also reached the Australian Open semifinal that year. Norman retired from playing in 2004 after a string of injuries, with his last match in September 2003.
As a player, he made a splash in 1997 by beating top players at the French Open and Wimbledon, and he helped Sweden win the Davis Cup in 1998. He underwent heart valve surgery in 1998 for an irregular heartbeat.
After retiring, Norman became a coach. He has worked with Thomas Johansson, Robin Söderling, and most notably Stan Wawrinka from 2013 onward, helping Wawrinka win three Grand Slam titles (2014 Australian Open, 2015 French Open, 2016 US Open) and reach as high as world No. 3. He was named ATP Coach of the Year in 2016. Norman co-founded the Good to Great Tennis Academy in 2011 with Mikael Tillström and Nicklas Kulti, training players including Wawrinka, Gaël Monfils and Grigor Dimitrov. He is known for his fitness and strong work ethic on the court.
