Mackenzie Wheeler
Mackenzie Wheeler Architects and Designers is an architectural and interior design firm in Shoreditch, London. They work on arts and cultural, educational, hotel, bar, restaurant, commercial and residential projects in the UK, Europe and beyond. The practice started in 1986 as a partnership by Rupert Wheeler and Duncan Mackenzie and now has about 15 staff based on Redchurch Street.
The firm is known for hotels and spas, bars and restaurants, education and cultural projects, and they also do conservation work, such as the Royal Automobile Club in Pall Mall, London. They recently completed a bar project and have plans for a hotel built from shipping containers.
Rupert Wheeler and Duncan Mackenzie studied at the School of Architecture at Leicester Polytechnic and were elected to RIBA and the ARB in 1982. Duncan Mackenzie previously worked with Sir Frederic Gibberd and Partners.
Notable projects include masterplans for Sharm El Sheikh town centre in Egypt, Tripoli New Marina in Libya, and Hemingway Marina in Havana, Cuba. They have completed private housing projects as well, such as a Grade II listed Art Deco home on Harley Street, Benbow House on the South Bank, a 1950s house on Fournier Street, and a Grade II listed Georgian townhouse in Spitalfields, London.
