MV Craigantlet
MV Craigantlet was a container ship owned by a German company and registered in Cyprus, operated on a time charter by Cawoods Containers Ltd of Belfast. It ran aground on 26 February 1982 at Killantringan Lighthouse in Portamaggie Bay, Wigtownshire, southwestern Scotland. The 800-ton ship was traveling from Belfast to Liverpool when it hit the coast. The lighthouse keeper raised the alarm, and the crew were rescued by a Sea King helicopter from 819 Squadron based at HMS Gannet at Glasgow Prestwick Airport. Because some containers carried hazardous materials, and some were mislabeled as empty, there was concern of a chemical spill. The area was evacuated and an unmanned warning beacon was installed. The containers were removed over the next six weeks. The wreck was left in place, and parts of the bow could still be seen at low tide in 2020 at Killantringan.
