Ludwig von Herterich
Ludwig von Herterich (1856–1932) was a German painter and art teacher, known for portraits and history paintings as part of the Munich School. He was born in Ansbach, Bavaria, and died in Etzenhausen near Dachau. He was the son of sculptor Franz Herterich and the younger brother of painter Johann Caspar Herterich. He taught at the Kunstschule Stuttgart and from 1898 was a professor at the Academy of Fine Arts Munich. His pupils included Karl Caspar, Maria Caspar-Filser, Käthe Kollwitz, Maria Slavona, and others. In 1908 he received the Order of Maximilian and was made a life peer. He helped create pictorial art for Schloss Wolfsbrunn in the Ore Mountains.
