Canóvanas, Loíza, Puerto Rico
Canóvanas is a barrio (neighborhood) in the Loíza municipality of Puerto Rico. It covers about 4.40 square miles (11.4 km2), almost all land, and sits at sea level. In 2010, 6,981 people lived there, with a density of about 1,605 per square mile. The area observes Atlantic Standard Time (UTC−4).
History notes: Canóvanas appears in older Spanish records before Puerto Rico became a U.S. territory after the 1898 Treaty of Paris. In 1899, the U.S. census counted 1,942 residents in Canóvanas barrio.
Barrrios are divided into smaller places called sectores. Some sectors in Canóvanas include Apartamentos River Oak Villas, Camino Los Peñas, Égida Emannuel de Marrero Inc., Extensión Villas de Loíza, Sector Palmarejo, and the urbanizations Country View, Loíza Estates, and Villas de Loíza.
