Ivy is an American band formed in 1994 by Dominique Durand, Andy Chase, and Adam Schlesinger. They have six studio albums, one EP, and contributions to various soundtracks and compilations.
They released the EP Lately in 1994, then their debut album Realistic in 1995. The lead single "Get Enough" earned Melody Maker's Single of the Week. After a brief hiatus, they released Apartment Life in 1997 with Atlantic Records. They worked with guests like Chris Botti, Lloyd Cole, James Iha, and Dean Wareham. The album did not sell well, and Atlantic dropped the band while they were touring. Two tracks from Apartment Life, "I Get the Message" and "This Is the Day," were later included on the soundtrack for There's Something About Mary (1998).
Ivy signed with Nettwerk and released Long Distance in 2000, a mix of guitar pop, trip hop, and new wave. The third single, "Edge of the Ocean," became their first UK chart entry, peaking at 160; it is often seen as their signature song. The next album, Guestroom, came out in 2002 on Minty Fresh Records and featured cover versions of songs by the Blow Monkeys, the Ronettes, Serge Gainsbourg, and Steely Dan, with a minimal production style using synths and acoustic sounds.
In the Clear followed in 2005 on Nettwerk, blending pop, disco, and rock with a retro 1960s influence and drawing comparisons to Pet Shop Boys and Blondie. After a six-year break and the birth of Durand and Chase's child, the band returned with All Hours in 2011. This electronic-pop album spawned singles "Distant Lights," "Fascinated," and "Lost in the Sun." Durand did not have writing credits on All Hours, but Chase and Schlesinger wrote and produced the album. The trio also have writing credits on several other albums. They recorded covers of Joe Raposo's "Sing" for the 2002 kids' album For the Kids and Vince Guaraldi's "Christmas Time Is Here" for Nettwerk's Maybe This Christmas Tree (2004). Producer Peter Nashel got Ivy to record "I'll Be Near You" for the Bee Season soundtrack in 2005. All songs recorded by Ivy, except where noted.
