Adolf VI, Count of Berg
Adolf VI, Count of Berg (born before 1176, died 7 August 1218) ruled the County of Berg from 1197 to 1218. He was the son of Engelbert I of Berg and Margaret of Geldern, and the older brother of Engelbert II, who would become Archbishop of Cologne.
Adolf married Berta von Sayn, and they had one daughter, Irmgard of Berg. In 1212, Adolf took part in the Albigensian Crusade against the Cathars, and in 1215 he seized the Kaiserpfalz at Kaiserswerth.
In 1218 he left with the Fifth Crusade to Egypt and died on 7 August 1218 from plague in Damietta, while commanding Lower-Rhenish and Frisian troops. After his death, his brother Engelbert II became ruler of Berg, and the county later passed to Irmgard’s husband.
