List of cryptids

Cryptids are animals or beings whose existence is disputed or not proven by science. Cryptozoology, the study of cryptids, is considered a pseudoscience because it suggests such beings might exist somewhere in the wild. Scientists widely critique cryptozoology for relying on anecdotes and for not following the scientific method. Many scientists question cryptids because there is little physical evidence, and stories from folklore are often misinterpreted or involve misidentifications. Biologists, who use established methods, typically identify new species; cryptozoologists focus on folklore and rumors. Reported cryptids are said to come from places around the world, including Papua New Guinea, Angola, and the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
