La Corda d'Oro episodes are based on Yuki Kure’s manga, which itself comes from a Koei video game. Kure designed the art. The anime was produced by Ruby Party, animated by Yumeta Company, and directed by Kōjin Ochi. The story follows Kahoko Hino, a high school girl who receives a magic violin from a musical fairy and must join an elite music competition with many attractive rivals, but the focus is really on her love for the violin.

The series has two seasons. La Corda d'Oro: Primo Passo aired from October 2, 2006, to March 26, 2007, and has 25 TV episodes plus one OVA, released on nine DVDs. The second season has two episodes, airing March 26, 2009, and June 5, 2009. Both seasons stream on Crunchyroll, and the first season is licensed by Sentai Filmworks.

Music includes season one opening “Brand New Breeze” by Kanon and ending “Crescendo” by Stella Quintet. Season two features only an ending, “蒼穹のスコア ~The score in blue~” by Stella Quintet.

Episode 1 introduces Lili and Kahoko Hino at Seiso Academy. Lili is a fairy involved with the Intramural concours, and Hino, who can see Lili, is chosen to enter the contest. Lili gives Hino a magic violin that can be played by a true music lover.

Episode 2 introduces Len Tsukimori, a talented but arrogant second-year violin student. He is cold toward Hino and her friend Tsuchiura, a soccer club member. When Hino hears Tsukimori practice, she is moved and praises him, which he dismisses. After hearing him play again, Hino recalls her feelings, and with the magic violin she can play the piece; Lili identifies it as Schubert’s Ave Maria.
