Qouluf, the Ensorcelled
Qouluf, the Ensorcelled is a 2024 Kashmiri-language drama directed by Ali Emran and produced by Mrs. Yaqout Mushtaq for Hot Ice. It released on 4 October 2024, with Seven 2 Creations distributing it. It marked the first color Kashmiri-language feature to premiere in a Kashmir cinema hall in more than six decades. The story follows Razzak Reshi, a gentle caretaker of an abandoned church in Kashmir. After a mysterious encounter with a child, he embarks on a spiritual journey guided by Rishi-Sufi ideas from Sheikh Nur al-Din Wali and Lal Ded. Facing grief, moral choices, and temptations, he seeks inner peace and enlightenment, embodying Kashmiriyat. Shot entirely in Kashmir, the film highlights authentic spiritual and cultural motifs. Its cinematography and ambient soundtrack blend folk traditions with meditative tones, rooted in regional identity. The film unfolds as a spiritual odyssey about loss and redemption, weaving Rishi-Sufi philosophy with Kashmiriyat. Qouluf, the Ensorcelled premiered at INOX Srinagar on 4 October 2024 and was featured at the Jehlum Jammu and Kashmir Film Carnival. Critics praised its visual storytelling and cultural resonance, calling it a cinematic meditation on Kashmiriyat and spiritual awakening.
