Licinus is a genus of ground beetles in the family Carabidae. It belongs to the animal kingdom, the arthropod phylum, the insect class, and the order Coleoptera. These beetles are part of the suborder Adephaga and the superfamily Caraboidea. The genus Licinus was defined by Latreille in 1802. Licinus species are native to the Palearctic region, including Europe, the Near East, and North Africa. There are about 29 species in this genus. Subgenera include Allolicinus (Semenov, 1927), Neorescius (Bedel, 1906), and Tricholicinus (Poppius, 1912).
