Libertad Digital
Libertad Digital (LD) is a Spanish online newspaper founded on March 8, 2000, by Federico Jiménez Losantos, who remains closely associated with the publication. The project was promoted by economist Alberto Recarte, the first president, and Javier Rubio, the first editor. In 2004 the company sought to raise capital, with some shares bought by people connected to the Popular Party. It has been suggested that Recarte encouraged party circles to participate after the party’s 2004 election defeat to the PSOE. Today, Losantos serves as president, and the editor is Raúl Vilas. Libertad Digital covers daily news and operates as an opinion newspaper, with around 100 contributors who write several columns each day. Since January 2005, it has also carried an ideas supplement from Monday to Friday. Notable contributors include Amando de Miguel, Carlos Rodríguez Braun, Carlos Semprún, Pío Moa, and Daniel Sirera. In 2004 the yearbook Hoja Perenne was published, which included editorial cartoons.
