Lias (journal)
Lias is a biannual, double-blind peer‑reviewed journal about the history of learning and education in Early Modern Europe, with a focus on primary sources. The editor-in-chief is Dirk van Miert. It was founded in 1974 by Dutch and Belgian scholars and originally carried the subtitle Sources and Documents relating to the Early Modern History of Ideas. The name Lias refers to a sheaf or file.
Until 2010, it was published by Academic Publishers Associated; since 2010, Peeters Academic Publishing has published it. Back issues up to 2004 are freely available. The journal prints source texts in their original languages, with introductions and footnotes in English (French sources may use French for the notes). It covers roughly from Early Humanism (14th century) to the late Enlightenment (early 19th century) and welcomes studies based on neglected printed sources. It is listed in the European Reference Index of the Humanities and is indexed in major databases such as JSTOR, LCCN, Scopus, and NLM.
