The Hunt is a play by British writer David Farr, based on the 2012 Danish film of the same name by Thomas Vinterberg and Tobias Lindholm. It follows Lucas, a popular elementary school teacher in a small Danish town, who is falsely accused of sexually abusing a student. As the accusation spreads, the community turns against him.

The play premiered in London at the Almeida Theatre on June 17, 2019, directed by Rupert Goold. Tobias Menzies played Lucas, with scenic design by Es Devlin, lighting by Neil Austin, and sound by Adam Cork.

The Almeida production ran June 17 to August 3, 2019, and later moved to New York, transferring to St. Ann’s Warehouse in 2024 with Goold and Menzies returning. Cast changes for the New York run included Lolita Chakrabarti replacing Michele Austin and MyAnna Buring replacing Poppy Miller; Adrian Der Gregorian and Danny Kirrane also returned.

Reviews were mixed to positive. In London, some critics praised the staging and Menzies’s performance, while others felt the direction was heavy-handed. The New York run generally received positive notices for its performances and striking design, though some critics again noted a hard-edged tone.
