Lemon drop pepper
Lemon Drop (Ají Limón) is a hot, lemon-flavored pepper from the Capsicum baccatum species. The cone-shaped fruit is about 60–80 mm long and 12 mm wide, often with a crinkled skin, and has a citrusy taste with 30,000–50,000 SHU heat. It’s popular in Peru, where it’s known as qillu uchu. The plant grows upright and very branched, with dark green narrow leaves and whitish-green flowers that have yellow-green spots at the base. In its first year it can reach 1.5–2 meters tall and can produce over 100 fruits per plant. From flowering to ripe fruit takes about 80 days. Lemon Drop is sometimes confused with Ají Limo, which is a different pepper in Capsicum chinense that ripens red and has differently colored flowers.
