Laura McGhie
Laura McGhie is a Scottish radio and TV broadcaster, born in Edinburgh on 26 April 1990. She works for BBC Radio 5 Live, presenting weekend overnight shows and also appearing on 5 Live Breakfast and 5 Live Drive as a relief presenter.
Earlier in her career she was a sports news presenter on the BBC News channel and one of the original hosts of BBC Scotland's flagship The Nine. She also reports for BBC Radio Scotland and Reporting Scotland, and appears on Sportscene, BBC Breakfast and Olympic coverage.
She studied English Literature at the University of Glasgow (MA Hons) and has a diploma in Music from Edinburgh College.
She began with the BBC in 2012, reporting from events such as the Edinburgh Festivals and later joined BBC Scotland. In 2015 she became a broadcast journalist for BBC Sport Scotland, covering football and rugby, and she reported from the Gold Coast Commonwealth Games. She co-presented the Rugby Breakfast Show, which was shortlisted for an ARIAS award.
From 2019 she was one of the original presenters on BBC Scotland's The Nine, and also appeared on The Edit and Seven Days. That year she started presenting on BBC Radio 5 Live, including Drive, Breakfast and Weekend Breakfast, and she served as a relief presenter for Colin Murray and Naga Munchetty.
In 2022 she joined 5 Live permanently as the overnight weekend presenter, replacing Hayley Hassell, and also joined the BBC News channel as a sport presenter, fronting Sportsday and sport bulletins. She hosted the 2024 Christmas special of the BBC Sounds Must Watch podcast. In 2025 it was announced she would return to BBC Radio 5 Live as a presenter after maternity leave, joining Dotun Adebayo to host overnight BBC Radio. She currently presents from Glasgow on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays across the network.
