Tom Czyz is an American former homicide detective and SWAT officer who now leads Armoured One, a safety company that focuses on active shooter training, security assessments, and protective glass and film. He travels the country to train teachers, school staff, and business leaders on how to stay safe during an active shooter.

Born in Syracuse, New York, Czyz grew up in Highland Falls and lives in Baldwinsville. He started as a police officer in Baldwinsville, then joined the Onondaga County Sheriff's Department in 2009 as a major crimes detective and SWAT operator. After 18 years on the job, he retired due to a work injury. In 2012 he founded Armoured One with a team of SWAT, military, and federal experts, to help schools improve security after the Sandy Hook tragedy.

Czyz’s work has him traveling nationwide to train faculty and staff on response protocols. In September 2024 he published Staying One Step Ahead: Ending the Story of Active Shooter in America’s Schools, a guide to better school safety. The book’s ISBN is 979-8891880436.
