Lando Calrissian
Lando Calrissian is a fictional Star Wars character known for his charm, style, and quick wit. He is the former owner of the Millennium Falcon and the administrator of Cloud City, a floating city in Bespin. He’s friends with Han Solo and gets involved in big adventures across the galaxy.
In The Empire Strikes Back, Lando welcomes Han, Leia, Chewbacca, and C-3PO to Cloud City but betrays them to Darth Vader to protect his people. He allows Han to be frozen in carbonite, but when Leia and Chewbacca are captured, Lando helps them escape and later helps Luke escape as well. In Return of the Jedi, Lando helps rescue Han from Jabba the Hutt and becomes a general in the Rebel Alliance, piloting the Millennium Falcon in the battle against the Death Star.
In Solo: A Star Wars Story, a younger Lando is shown as a gambler and owner of the Falcon. He tries to win the ship from Han in a sabacc game, but eventually teams up with Han for a dangerous mission. In The Rise of Skywalker, Lando is older and returns to help Rey and the Resistance, helping gather forces to fight the Sith. He also appears in Star Wars Rebels and many books, comics, and video games.
Portrayals and media: Billy Dee Williams played Lando in the original films and Rebels; Donald Glover played the younger version in Solo. A new Lando-focused project has been discussed, with talks of a future film or series. Lando also appears in Marvel Comics, and in video games like Star Wars Battlefront. In 2024’s Star Wars Outlaws, he is shown as a charismatic, smooth-talking gambler and entrepreneur again.
Lando is often praised as a stylish, clever character and is seen as an important figure for Black representation in science fiction cinema. Some creators have described him as pansexual, a point that has sparked discussion among fans. His full name is Landonis Balthazar Calrissian.
