Lance Archer, born Lance Hoyt on February 28, 1977, in Hearne, Texas, is an American professional wrestler known for his size and power. Standing 6 feet 8 inches tall and weighing around 289 pounds, he began wrestling in 2000 after training with Solo Faitala. He has performed for many promotions around the world, including TNA/Impact, WWE, NJPW, and AEW, and he also appears in NJPW Strong and occasional NJPW events.

Early career and TNA/Impact Wrestling
Hoyt started in the Texas indie scene under several ring names before joining Total Nonstop Action Wrestling (TNA) in 2004 as Dallas. He teamed with Kid Kash to win the NWA World Tag Team Championship twice. He later formed Rock N Rave Infection with Jimmy Rave and Christy Hemme, and briefly used the Lance Rock character with a rock-band gimmick. He returned to TNA in 2006 and continued competing there through 2009.

WWE and FCW
After leaving TNA, Hoyt signed with WWE and wrestled in Florida Championship Wrestling (FCW) as Lance Archer, later shortened to Vance Archer. He wrestled on ECW and helped form a tag team with Curt Hawkins on SmackDown called The Gatecrashers. The team disbanded in 2010, and Hoyt was released from his WWE contract later that year.

New Japan Pro-Wrestling (NJPW) and Suzuki-gun
Hoyt found notable success in NJPW, where he joined Minoru Suzuki’s Suzuki-gun faction. He teamed with Davey Boy Smith Jr. as Killer Elite Squad (K.E.S.), winning the IWGP Tag Team Championship multiple times and the NWA World Tag Team Championship (with Smith) as part of their run. He also won the G1 Tag League in 2011 with Suzuki and achieved strong showings in the G1 Climax and World Tag League. After joining and then reuniting with Suzuki-gun, he held the IWGP Tag Team Championship with Smith several times and won the GHC Tag Team Championship in Noah during the invasion-era storyline. He sidelined with a back injury in 2016 but returned in 2017, and continued to compete in NJPW and in collaborations with ROH.

AEW and ongoing career
In February 2020, Hoyt signed with All Elite Wrestling (AEW). He made his AEW debut on Dynamite after a run in NJPW; he later fought for the inaugural TNT Championship and competed for the AEW World Championship. He became a two-time IWGP United States Heavyweight Champion during his ongoing NJPW/AEW tenure and later battled for various titles in AEW. In 2021, he suffered a neck injury from a botched spot but returned to action after a few months. He aligned with Minoru Suzuki again in 2021, reforming part of Suzuki-gun for a time, and later participated in NJPW’s World Tag League with Suzuki as part of a broader collaboration.

The Don Callis Family and Murder Machines
In 2024, Archer joined Don Callis and became part of The Don Callis Family, teaming with Brian Cage to form the Murder Machines. Although Cage was sidelined by injury in 2025, Archer continued competing in singles action within the group’s framework.

Other appearances and personal life
Archer has appeared in video games, including WWE SmackDown vs. Raw 2011 (as Vance Archer) and AEW Fight Forever (as Lance Archer). He has appeared in other media projects, including Adult Swim specials, and has involvement with Steven Spielberg’s Disclosure Day.

Off the mat, Hoyt grew up in Hearne, Texas, played basketball, football, and baseball in high school, and played college football as a quarterback at Texas State University, earning a degree in English. He is publicly Christian and has credited wrestling training to Solo Faitala, who he met during his college years.

Lance Archer remains a prominent figure in modern pro wrestling, known for his power, endurance, and versatility across multiple promotions and eras.
