Korean Sociological Association
Korean Sociological Association (Hangul 한국사회학회; Hanja 韓國社會學會; Revised Romanization Hanguksahoehakhoe; McCune–Reischauer Hankuksahoehakhoe) is South Korea’s national organization for sociologists and researchers in social sciences. It was founded in 1956 and has published the Korean Journal of Sociology since 1964. The association runs annual symposia and workshops, hosts biannual nationwide conventions, holds quarterly seminars, and runs various occasional workshops. It is one of Korea’s larger academic groups, with more than 800 members. Scholars Park Myoung-Kyu and Chang Kyung-Sup (1999) describe its role in developing Korean sociology, noting that it helps articulate and share the values and norms of scientific research and participates in debates about relevance and indigenization.
