Doraemon: Nobita and the Winged Braves
Doraemon the Movie: Nobita and the Winged Braves is a 2001 Japanese animated science fiction adventure film. It’s the 22nd Doraemon movie and was released in Japan on March 10, 2001. The story runs about 91 minutes.
Plot:
Nobita watches news about flamingos disappearing and dreams of flying. He makes wooden wings, but can’t fly. A humanoid bird named Gusuke appears through a sky portal and asks for help. He travels from Birdopia, a bird world that connects to Earth only during migration. Doraemon, Nobita, and Shizuka befriend Gusuke and help fix his airplane.
Gian and Suneo chase after Gusuke, steal the plane, and follow him into Birdopia. They’re captured by crow soldiers and brought to Seagrid, a vulture commander who wants to destroy humans. Doraemon, Nobita, and Shizuka, with help from Professor Hou (an owl) and an ostrich taxi, rescue Gian and Suneo and escape.
Hou explains that Birdopia is a world that often distrusts humans. To protect themselves, the kids wear “Bird Hats” that give them wings. Gusuke reveals he’s adopted and can’t fly naturally because of past trauma. Hou finds a tablet about Phoenicia, a dragon-like being who could destroy the world. Seagrid kidnaps Hou to learn Phoenicia’s location.
The friends join Rally Icarus, a yearly event that can recruit people for Bird Migration Patrol. Gusuke wins but is disqualified for using a machine to fly. They discover Hou is missing and learn from Doraemon’s reading of the tablet that Icarus, a legendary eagle, was imprisoned for helping Seagrid. They free Icarus, who helps them stop Seagrid from awakening Phoenicia.
Phoenicia wakes up and rampages through Birdopia. Doraemon tries to de-evolve Phoenicia with a beam, but the beam backfires and makes Phoenicia bigger. Icarus helps, and Gusuke finally learns to fly. They chase Phoenicia to the top of a Perched Tree. Doraemon and Nobita go to Mamoru Torino’s time machine to stop Phoenicia, but end up sending Phoenicia and the machine billions of years into the past, ending the threat.
Afterwards, Birdopia is safe and everyone celebrates. Nobita and friends return home, and Shizuka brings back her pet canary.
