Kuncoro
Kuncoro (7 March 1973 – 18 January 2026) was an Indonesian footballer who played as a defender and midfielder. He was born in Malang, Indonesia, and, like many Indonesian players, did not have a family name.
Club career
Kuncoro’s professional career spanned from 1991 to 2010. He played for many Indonesian clubs, including Arema Malang (multiple spells), Assyabaab Surabaya, Mitra Surabaya, Persija Jakarta, PSM Makassar, Gelora Putra Delta, Perseden Denpasar, Persik Kediri, Persijap Jepara, Persegi Gianyar, Persipro Probolinggo, PSIR Rembang, PS Mojokerto Putra, Bhayangkara FC, and others. He helped Arema Malang win the Galatama title in 1992-93, and later won league titles with PSM Makassar (1999-2000) and Persik Kediri (2003).
International career
Kuncoro played for the Indonesia national team from 1994 to 1998. He represented Indonesia in the 1994 Indonesian Independence Cup and the 1998 Tiger Cup.
Coaching and later life
After retiring as a player, Kuncoro pursued coaching, including a C license trainer course. He served as an assistant coach for Arema from 2012 until his death in 2026.
Notable incident
In April 2000, Kuncoro was involved in an incident at a Crystal Meth party in Surabaya along with players Kurniawan Dwi Yulianto and Mursyid Effendi; he was disciplined by the PSSI.
Death
Kuncoro died of a heart attack while playing football at Gajayana Stadium in Malang, Indonesia, on 18 January 2026, at the age of 52.
