Southern Division Kisan Sangh
The Southern Division Kisan Sangh started in Fiji in 1946. It was formed by former MP K. B. Singh after a feud with Ram Krishna Chaudhary, the head of the Rewa Planters Union. Many opposed the new group until Vishnu Deo became its leader and worked with Chaudhary and his union. In 1948, Deo and A. D. Patel split up after working together since 1929; Deo joined Ayodhya Prasad and the Kisan Sangh and opposed Patel’s Maha Sangh. The Sangh helped negotiate the 1950 cane contract. Deo’s group and Ayodhya Prasad’s Kisan Sangh opposed the contract as offered by the Colonial Sugar Refining Company, while Patel’s Maha Sangh supported it. After the Nausori sugar mill closed in 1959, the union ceased to exist.
