Bure, Meuse
Bure is a small commune in northeastern France. It is in the Meuse department, Grand Est region, within the Bar-le-Duc arrondissement and the canton of Ligny-en-Barrois. The area covers about 118 square kilometers and has around 90 residents (2023). Elevation ranges from about 298 to 399 meters (roughly 335 m on average). Bure is best known for the Meuse/Haute Marne Underground Research Laboratory, where scientists study how to store radioactive waste underground. The mayor for 2020–2026 is Gérard Antoine.
