Krukira is a small Miskito fishing village in Nicaragua’s North Caribbean Coast Autonomous Region. It lies at about 14.17°N, 83.32°W. In 2007, Hurricane Felix hit the area and the eye passed over Krukira, causing heavy damage. Official reports said about 9,000 houses were destroyed, leaving many of the roughly 40,000 people in the area homeless, with many affected living in Krukira and nearby Puerto Cabezas. The government declared a state of disaster, and residents faced a severe shortage of supplies and services after the storm. As of 2023, Krukira has about 861 residents. The time zone is UTC-6.
