Kristiina Halonen
Kristiina Halonen is a Finnish track and field athlete who runs the 400 metres hurdles. Born on 10 October 1997 in Lappeenranta, Finland, she trained with the local club Lappeenrannan Urheilu-Miehet and grew into a national-level hurdler. She has won Finnish indoor and outdoor titles and set national indoor hurdle records. At the 2022 World Championships in Eugene, Oregon, she ran 56.68 seconds in the 400 m hurdles but did not reach the semifinals. Later that year, she competed at the European Championships in Munich in both the 400 m hurdles and the 4×400 metre relay, but did not reach the finals. In 2024 she improved to a personal best of 55.62 seconds in the 400 m hurdles, which helped her reach the semifinals at the European Championships in Rome. Halonen is regarded as one of Finland’s leading hurdlers of the 2020s.
