Krähenbach (Danube)

The Krähenbach is a small river in Baden-Württemberg, Germany. It is a tributary of the Danube on the Baar plateau, in Tuttlingen within the Upper Danube Nature Park.

The river begins about 200 meters east of a clay pit in the Haldenwald forest near Tuningen, at about 806 meters above sea level. It flows northeast through the Haldenwald, into the Talheim area where it bends southeast. Along the way it is joined by small streams, flows past two small lakes (the second used as a swimming lake), and runs beside the B 523 road. It then passes through Talheim and Eßlingen in Tuttlingen, where part of its water is diverted into a mill stream that rejoins later. A reservoir later fills much of the valley, but after a nature restoration project the Krähenbach can meander again.

The river eventually reaches Möhringen an der Donau on the Danube floodplain, where it meets the Danube. In summer, when the upper Danube loses water to the Danube Sinkhole, the Krähenbach is the first river to supply water to the dry Danube bed.

Catchment area: about 33.2 square kilometers. Length: about 16.5 kilometers. The Krähenbach finally flows into the Danube at Tuttlingen-Möhringen.
